The Kingfisher - class consisted of two icebreakers Class 721, which from 1961 to 2006 for the German Navy / German Navy were on duty. The Eisvogel has been used as a civilian tug in Trieste since 2010 .

General

The two ships were commissioned in 1958 for 4 million DM each from the Hitzler shipyard in Lauenburg (construction numbers 645 and 646). The hull has a typical tugboat shape and is divided into six compartments by five bulkheads.

During their service with the German Navy, the two ships were mainly used as tugs in the naval bases , as tugs for sea target shooting targets and in winter as ice breakers. The equipment consisted of an unbalance tamping system with 2 eccentric wheels in the foredeck, a towing device with a bollard pull of 20 tbp and a platform for a 40 mm Bofors gun behind the bridge superstructure.
