Eivind Danielson Aakhus

Eivind Danielson Aakhus (born December 18, 1854 in Bygland , † April 20, 1937 in Bygland Township, Polk County , Minnesota ) was a Norwegian violinist and virtuoso on the Hardanger fiddle .

Life

Eivind Danielson Aakhus grew up in Bygland in Setesdal . His parents were Daniel Grundeson Aakhus (1829-1891) and Birgit Eivindsdotter Aakhus (1829-1904). He had six siblings. When he emigrated to the United States in 1878, he was already an accomplished musician. There first moved to his brother in Minnesota. Here he first bought a piece of land and farmed it. In 1880 he married Gro Danielsdotter Ose (1859–1926). They had several children together. Later he traveled for many years as a violinist through the country and gave concerts in many cities, especially with sections of the population of Norwegian origin. On February 13, 1892, he gave a concert at Edwards Hall in Warren , Minnesota. He was there as a celebrated violinist [ celebrated violinist] announced. Norwegian folk melodies were on the program. Another concert is booked on April 9, 1896. Aakhus again gave concerts in Warren with Alexander Bull (1839–1914), the son of the well-known Norwegian violinist Ole Bull . On February 9, 1897, he gave a concert at the Opera House in Willmar with the soprano Jennie Jorgensson and the violinist Prof. Fremstad. In an advance notice of an event on May 17, 1903 in Little Falls , he was hailed as the greatest living Norvegian violinist . On March 17, 1904, he made a guest appearance at the New Opera House in Menomonie . In this, too, he played Norwegian tunes. But he also sang the then popular Norwegian song Stev and recited texts by the Norwegian author Hans Seland (1867-1949). The evening was announced as Scandinavian Entertainment . Aakhus gave a memorial concert to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Ole Bull on February 5, 1910 in Madison, who had lived here for a while. He later lived in Gran Forks , North Dakota .
