In 1879, today's urban area was first settled by whites. The construction of a railway line for what was then the Great Northern Railway (now the BNSF Railway) led to the establishment of a permanently populated village, which was incorporated as the Village of Warren in 1881 . The name goes back to an employee of the railway company who, however, never entered the city. In the same year Warren also became the seat of administration for Marshall County. In 1882 the parish status changed to the City of Warren .
