Ekkehard Wendler

Ekkehard Wendler (born November 19, 1965 - † November 28, 2011 ) was a German transport engineer and professor for railways and transport economics at RWTH Aachen University .

Life

Ekkehard Wendler studied from 1986 to 1991 at the University of Transport in Dresden Transport Engineering . He then worked until 1993 as the main group leader in construction planning for the Deutsche Bundesbahn in Nuremberg.

From 1993 to 1997 he took a leave of absence from this work to do his doctorate on the subject of analytical calculation of scheduled waiting times in asynchronous timetable construction at RWTH Aachen University.

From 1997 on he returned to Deutsche Bahn in the network division , where he oversaw the expansion of the Rhein-Main S-Bahn and GVFG projects.

In January 2001, Wendler was appointed professor for railways and transport economics at RWTH Aachen University. His main research areas were railway infrastructure , railway management , railway safety technology and modes of transport choice. The Faculty of Civil Engineering elected him dean in October 2006 . He held this position until October 2010. During this time, the course was transformed into a Bachelor-Master system and the mobility and transport course was introduced. He was then vice dean of the faculty until his death at the age of 46.

As a spin-off from the RWTH Aachen Institute for Transport Science (VIA), he founded VIA Consulting & Development GmbH in 2008.

He was married and had four children.
