Elara (mythology)
Elara ( Greek Ἐλάρα ) is in Greek mythology a nymph , daughter of King Orchomenus , and with Zeus the mother of Tityos .
Zeus hid Elara after he had impregnated her from his jealous wife Hera deep in the earth, which is why Tityos is also called the son of Gaia . The mother died giving birth to the huge child.
On Euboea there is said to have been a cave named after her Elarion and a heroon of Tityos.
