Eleonore Maximiliane Ottilie Henckel von Donnersmarck

Eleonore Maximiliane Ottilie Louise Countess Henckel von Donnersmarck b. von Lepel (born October 17, 1756 in Nassenheide in Pomerania , † February 20, 1843 in Weimar ) was a Prussian noblewoman and lady-in-waiting in Saint Petersburg and Weimar. Her granddaughter Ottilie was the daughter-in-law of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe .

She was the daughter of Friedrich Wilhelm von Lepel and Countess Amalie Henckel von Donnersmarck (1720–1783). In 1774 she married the Prussian lieutenant general and governor of Königsberg Victor Amadeus Count Henckel von Donnersmarck .

In 1777 she bought the Groß Holstein Castle between Königsberg and Pillau for 41,000 thalers , originally owned by Elector Friedrich III. was built by Brandenburg as a hunting lodge. She sold this property to Franz von Below in 1795.

In 1793, when her husband died, she was court lady at the court of Prince Heinrich of Prussia , brother of King Frederick the Great, in Rheinsberg Castle near Neuruppin.

She was then from 1802 palace lady and chief stewardess to Maria Pavlovna in Saint Petersburg. Maria Pavlovna (1786-1859) was Grand Duchess of Russia and sister of the Tsar. In 1804 she followed Maria Pawlowna to Weimar, where she married the Grand Duke Carl Friedrich von Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach . Ottilie, as she was called in the family, was with her in the said function until her death.

In 1806 she bought a house in the Park an der Ilm in Weimar , which is known as the Pogwisch House . Her daughter Henriette Ulrike Ottilie von Pogwisch (1776-1851) had founded a French reading society . The son from her marriage with Victor Amadeus Count Henckel von Donnersmarck, Wilhelm Ludwig Viktor Henckel von Donnersmarck (1775–1849), went through the military career like his father.

Her grave is in the historical cemetery in Weimar .
