Elisa Togut (born May 14, 1978 in Gorizia , Italy ) is an Italian volleyball player . She celebrated her greatest success at the 2002 World Cup , when she won the title with the national team and was also named the best player of the tournament. With her club Vicenza she won the CEV Cup a year earlier .

Career

Togut began her career as a volleyball player in 1994 in the youth team of Volley Modena , which played in Serie B2, the fourth Italian league. In the following season she was already used in the first team of the club in the A1 series and was thus part of the squad of the team that won the Top Teams Cup . Since the diagonal attacker was not yet established, after winning this title, she first went to the third-tier B1 series for one season before returning to Modena in 1997 from New Line Vignola . When the Italian association founded the Club Italia project in 1998 to promote volleyball , Togut had the opportunity to join the Italian national team , with which she won the bronze medal at the European championships in her own country a year later . In Arsizio she returned to Serie A and after moving to Minetti Vicenza in 2000 , her most successful period began. With the club she won the Italian Supercup and the CEV Cup and with the national team she reached the final of the European Championship in Bulgaria . At the subsequent World Cup in 2002 , she played a major role in Italy winning the title for the first time and was therefore voted the most valuable player (MVP) of the tournament in Germany. After this high point, she played for Monte Schiavo Jesi for six years , but was not as successful at the club as she was in the national team. Another silver medal at the 2005 European Championships and two top placements at the Grand Prix completed the list of Togut's successes. In 2009 she interrupted her career because of a pregnancy. After becoming the mother of a son in March 2010, she continued her career with the second division club Icos Crema .
