Character images in black and white - Elisabeth Heinemann portrays : people, cities, landscapes. Your recordings are elementary excerpts and jumps. They focus on character details that tell a lot about the whole behind it and its personality. Nevertheless, these portraits remain characterized by an optical and acoustic cautiousness. Silence and concentration arise not least from the black and white technique with which Elisabeth Heinemann works almost exclusively. “I think color is distracting. That's why I mainly choose black and white. I think that you can try to get a better grasp of the essentials with black and white. ”Mostly Elisabeth Heinemann takes pictures in parallel with two analog cameras in which films with different light sensitivity are inserted. Her role models include two of the great French photographers: Jeanloup Sieff and Henri Cartier-Bresson .

Elisabeth Heinemann calls her central image project “extraordinary - artist portraits”. Since 2005 she has photographed more than 90 celebrities from music, painting, literature and politics. Including Zeruya Shalev , Christoph Hein , Reiner Kunze , Klaus Doldinger , Markus Lüpertz , Klaus Staeck , Reinhold Messner and Egon Bahr . For the photographs she chooses a reduced background or a location that is typical of the work of the sitter. Elisabeth Heinemann asks three questions: What is happiness for you? What do you expect from life? What are you dreaming of? While the respondents are pondering and thinking, the portraits are created. In fact, “extraordinary” because they “force you to look” and allow you to meet. Elisabeth Heinemann “abolishes the distance that celebrity could bring with it in her photos and shows the people portrayed from a very personal side,” writes journalist Martin Ganzkow (see literature). Hellmuth Karasek, who was also portrayed by Elisabeth Heinemann, said on the occasion of the opening of the exhibition on the Thuringian Culture Days Provincial Scream: “If you look at the pictures here, you will see such a seriousness and also a great deal of intimacy between the artist and her object. I feel good in your pictures. "
