Elisabeth Küper

Elisabeth Küper (born November 19, 1901 in Essen-Altenessen ; † January 20, 1991 in Dülmen ) was a German trade unionist and politician, first of the Center Party and later of the CDU .

Live and act

After finishing school, Küper worked as a textile worker in Dülmen from 1916. In 1923 she became a domestic helper before returning to the textile industry in 1926. In 1928 she joined the Center Party and the Central Association of Christian Textile Workers and was active in the works council and local cartel of the Christian trade unions . Küper also published a few agitational poems for workers' rights.

In 1931 she went to Münster as a full-time trade union secretary and worked together with August Heeke in the district management of the Christian textile workers' association. Küper was responsible for women's issues.

During the time of National Socialism she was banned from working. She lived on the run for about two years because of the persecution. At times she went into hiding with friends in Münster and family members in the Sauerland . Since 1935 she worked as a housekeeper in Merfeld .

After 1945 Küper co-founded the CDU in Merfeld, Dülmen and Coesfeld . She was a member of the party's executive committee in the Coesfeld district . She was also a city councilor in Dülmen and a district council member.

In 1946 Küper was a member of the Provincial Council for Westphalia . In addition, she was a member of the appointed Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia in 1946 and 1947 . In the first state election it was defeated by a candidate from the Center Party. Küper also ran in vain in the election for the first Bundestag.

In 1967 she received the Federal Cross of Merit and in 1986 the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia .
