Elisabeth Meyer-Marthaler

Elisabeth Meyer-Marthaler (born September 27, 1916 in Winterthur ; † March 1, 2001 in Frauenfeld ; resident in Niederhasli ) was a Swiss historian .

life and work

Elisabeth Meyer-Marthaler studied history in Zurich and Vienna . Since she had taken a clear stand against National Socialism , she had to leave Vienna in 1938 as a “persona non grata”.

Elisabeth Meyer-Marthaler received her grammar school teacher diploma in 1940 and received her doctorate in Zurich with the work “Investigations into the constitutional and legal history of the County of Vintschgau in the Middle Ages”. From 1940 she was the editor of the Graubünden document book .

In 1941 she married the historian Bruno Meyer , with whom she had four children. In addition to housework and raising children, Elisabeth Meyer-Marthaler wrote numerous publications on issues relating to Graubünden and many basic articles on the history of the Thurgau monasteries as well as numerous contributions to the Helvetia Sacra .
