Elisabeth Steup

Elisabeth Steup (* 1928 in Witten ; † August 21, 2006 ) was a German lawyer.

Life

Steup was born as the daughter of the politician Paul Steup . After graduating from high school in 1947, she studied law at the Universities of Cologne and Münster . After the two state examinations in law , she first worked as a judge at the Dortmund District Court , then briefly at the German Patent Office in Munich.

In mid-1959 she moved to the Federal Ministry of Justice , where she held the rank of ministerial advisor for patent law, competition law and trademark law for many years. In the World Intellectual Property Organization , she was the spokesperson for the western industrialized countries.

From September 1, 1986 to May 31, 1992, she was President of the Federal Patent Court in Munich and thus the first woman to head a higher federal court.
