Elizabeth "Betsey" Armstrong (born January 31, 1983 in Ann Arbor ) is an American water polo player . She plays for the New York Athletic Club and holds the position of goalkeeper .

Athletic career

Armstrong made her debut for the United States water polo team in 2006 . With the national team she won various awards, in particular the gold medal of the World Water Polo League in 2006 and 2007, the gold medal at the Pan American Games in 2007 and 2011, also gold medals at the Swimming World Championships in 2007 in Melbourne and 2009 in Rome as well as at the Summer Olympics in 2012 in London . In addition, she won the silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing after the US lost 8: 9 to the Dutch national team in the final.

In 2011 she took part with the national team in the water polo world championships and finished 6th.

Private life

Armstrong first attended Huron High School in Ann Arbor, where she graduated in 2001, and then attended the University of Michigan , where she studied and graduated English . She got into water polo through her older sister and was a member of the water polo teams of her high school and later university. Today she lives in Long Beach .
