Controversy

On January 19, 2020, the then 21-year-old Benchetrit asked a ball girl to bring him a banana in the final qualifying round for the Australian Open 2020 . After handing over the banana, Benchetrit asked the ball girl to peel the banana for him. The chair referee John Blom intervened and ordered Benchetrit to peel the banana himself. According to Benchetrit, the latter told him that the girl was not his slave.
