Elmar Stegmann (table tennis player)

Elmar Stegmann (born September 30, 1935 in Vöhringen (Iller) ) is a former German table tennis player .

Stegmann began his career in 1952 at the TSV 1880 Neu-Ulm club. He then played from 1954 to 1956 at TSV Illertissen, which played in the early 1950s in the league , the then highest German class. In 1956 he moved to SSV Ulm in 1846 , which he left in 1960 for PSV Stuttgart . With this team he won the South German Championship in 1960/61 and the German Cup in 1962/63. In 1964 he joined the DJK Sportbund Stuttgart , with which he won the European ETTU Cup in the 1964/65 season and with which he stayed until 1969. This was followed by a change to the league promoted SV 07 Ludwigsburg. Stegmann has been playing for TTV Erdmannhausen since 1989.

In November 1962, Stegmann played his first official international match. In the fight against Austria he achieved a victory and a defeat. In his second international match against France in March 1963, he convinced with three wins. In total, he played six international matches in 1962 and 1963. When Conny Freundorfer was injured, Stegmann was nominated for the 1963 World Cup . With a positive 3: 2 balance, he had a share in the third place of the German team. In the individual, he was eliminated in the first round against Bernhard Bukiet (USA). In the following consolation round he reached the final, which he lost against the North Korean Pak Sin II.

In the German rankings Stegmann was out in third place in 1963, in the national ranking tournament he reached 1,963 sixth.

Today (February 2011) Stegmann lives in Freiberg am Neckar .
