Elva Hsiao (* 24. August 1979 in Taipei ), also known as Elva Siu or Hsiao Ya Hsuan , a Taiwanese Mandopop - singer .

Life

She can write and speak English as she lived in Vancouver , Canada during her high school years . While she was in Vancouver, she took her maiden name, Hsiao Ya-chih (蕭 雅 之), in a singing competition and was one of the 12 finalists, but did not make it to the top five. The song she sang was by Coco Lee, "Love Me A While Longer 愛 我 久 一點".

Musical career

Elva had originally signed a record deal with the record label "Virgin Records Taiwan", a label of the EMI Group . "Virgin Records Taiwan" gave her the stage name Elva Hsiao (蕭亞軒). Her debut album , named after her, was released in 1999 and sold over 1 million copies in Asia. This cemented their status in the Chinese music industry.

She sang her song "U Make Me Wanna", which appeared on her album Love's Theme Song, Kiss (2002), with the British boy band Blue . Elva left Virgin Records in the summer of 2004.

Elva took a break for a year while various record companies fight for their next contract. It ended in a fight between Warner Music Taiwan and Sony BMG , which Warner Music won and finally signed a deal with Elva on March 23, 2005. Their fans were overjoyed and waited for the new album, which, according to Warner, should be released in June 2005.

However, Warner Music Taiwan faced some serious problems during this period: senior executives and employees were laid off. Many other Warner artists were affected and didn't get much promotion . But nobody was as bad as Elva: The release of her album was postponed to September, then October, November, December, until Warner announced that the album would be delayed indefinitely. This annoyed the impatiently waiting fans who complained in the Warner Music Taiwan Internet forums. The entire website had to be taken out of service for a week.

In February 2006 a Warner Music representative announced in an interview that the album would be released around the end of March / beginning of April. Just a few weeks later, a magazine reported further layoffs and that the album's release might be delayed until late April / early May.

In June 2006 she released a new single called "The World I Want" [我 要 的 世界].

In October 2006 the album has still not been released. But Elva announced that this would finally be the case in December. At the time, Elva was in Los Angeles working on a choreography . She also released a new promotional single called "Elva Is Back".

Elva and Warner Music announced in November that the album would finally be released on December 22, 2006. The name of the album is [1087]. The number represents the number of days Elva was absent from the mandopop scene.

She has already released six singles from this album.

Return to EMI

After working with Warner Music , Elva decided to go back to her old record label in 2008: “Virgin Records” from EMI . She described the move as "going back home" as she was one of the first artists in 1999 to sign a recording deal with Virgin Music Chinese.

Film and other media work

Elva has appeared in a number of commercials in Taiwan . She advertised a wide variety of items from cell phones to jewelry and makeup . So she advertised z. B. for big brands like Motorola , Sprite , De Beers , Avon and Pantene .

She has had roles in two films: Infernal Affairs ( 2002 ) and The Butterfly Lovers ( 2004 ).
