Elvin Santos

Elvin Ernesto Santos Ordóñez (born January 18, 1963 in Tegucigalpa ) is an entrepreneur and presidential candidate of the Partido Liberal de Honduras for the election on November 29, 2009 in Honduras .

Life

His parents are Sonia Ordóñez de Santos and the engineer Elvin Santos Lozano, former mayor of Tegucigalpa. He is the firstborn and has three siblings: Aida María, Juan Fernando (†) and Carlos. His elementary school was the Elvel School . He graduated from high school in science and fine arts at the Escuela Americana in Tegucigalpa. He studied civil engineering at Lamar University in Beaumont , specializing in project management and graduated with a diploma. Santos is a member of the professional associations Ingenieros Civiles de Honduras and the American Society of Civil Engineers .

Santos was Honorary Consul of the Republic of Honduras in Austin and represented the government of Honduras as a rotating member of the UN Security Council .

The members of the Santos family are traditionally members of the Partido Liberal de Honduras . Santos became a member of the Juventud Liberal in 1981 and coordinated the presidential campaign of Roberto Suazo Córdova .

In 1987 Santos met his wife Becky Manzanares de Santos, the couple have four children: Elvin, Rebeca, Adrian and Natalia.

Grupo Santos

The family company Grupo Santos has around 1,200 employees in the construction, real estate and transport sectors. Santos has been the managing director of Constructora Santos y Compañía since 1990 . The Grupo Santos is in the new building as in building maintenance for private and public clients ( Secretaría de Obras Públicas y Vivienda transports active SOPTRAVI). Your projects in Central America are partially financed by the World Bank , such as a ring road for Tegucigalpa. Santos is a member of the Directiva del Régimen de Aportaciones Privadas (RAP)

Santos is deputy chairman of the construction industry section of the Asociación Nacional de Industriales (ANDI, industrial association). Santos was president of the Cámara Hondureña de la Industria de la Construcción ( Chamber of Construction ) and member of the Consejo Hondureño de la Empresa Privada (COHEP) for two consecutive terms .

Santos also devotes himself to the program of the Partido Liberal de Honduras . For the Partido Liberal de Honduras , Santos organized the data processing of the municipality in the north of Francisco Morazán during the presidential election campaign of Carlos Roberto Flores Facussé . Santos was a member of the political commission of the Movimiento Esperanza Liberal , the electoral alliance for the presidential election of Manuel Zelaya , where he coordinated the election commission nationwide, he was a candidate for the primary election, and designated deputy of Zelaya. On November 27, 2005, Zelaya was elected with the support of Peter Schröder . On January 27, 2006, Zelaya was inaugurated and Santos became his deputy.

In the Gobierno del Poder Ciudadano (PC) by Zelaya, Santos dedicated himself to the Instituto de la Propiedad (IP). which focused on Regularización Predial (real estate transactions ) and real estate titles . Around 25,000 real estate titles were issued in less than two years. Santos is chairman of the Comisión Permanente de Contingencias (COPECO, regional planning authority) and the Comisión Ejecutiva del Valle de Sula (District Administrator of the valley in which San Pedro Sula is located). The Sulatal is to be drained and supported with dam power plants, whereby the drinking water catchment areas are to be preserved and the bed load regimes are to be controllable.

Santos initiated studies on a Ley de Reordenamiento Territorial ( spatial planning ) and on a compensation law , which is supposed to make it attractive for international investors to expropriate calculable amounts of compensation and thus invest 20 million USD in infrastructure .

Santos is the representative of President Zelaya for the Plan Puebla Panamá (PPP, Infrastructure Program in Mesoamerica). The PPP promotes the Sistema de Interconexión Eléctrica para Centro América y el Caribe , (SIEPACC network for electrical energy in Central America), the economic integration of Central America, an Autopista Mesoamericana de la Información , (AMI powerful remote data transmission ).

Santos is the representative of President Zelaya for the Plan Trifinio (a borderland program in Honduras), with which 45 municipalities on the borders with El Salvador and Guatemala were funded.

Santos is chairman of the Consejo Mesoamericano de la Competitividad, a neoliberal pressure group .

In February 2008, Santos was visited by Werner Hoyer with Christian Lüth, the project manager for Central America of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom .

In the nomination for the presidential candidacy of the Partido Liberal de Honduras , Mauricio Villeda Bermúdez (born April 27, 1948 in Tegucigalpa) from the Movimiento de Elvin Santos prevailed on November 30, 2008 against Roberto Micheletti .

On December 18, 2008, Santos resigned from the post of Deputy President Zelaya and Villeda handed him the presidential candidacy of the Partido Liberal de Honduras .
