Elvira Grozinger
Elvira Ursula Grözinger (born July 29, 1947 in Cieplice Śląskie-Zdrój , Poland) is a German literary scholar , journalist and translator .
Life
Grözinger was born in Poland and immigrated to Israel in 1957. After studying English and Civilization Française at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem ( BA ), translation and German studies at the University of Heidelberg and German and Jewish studies at the University of Frankfurt am Main , she began working as a freelance sworn translator and journalist from 1983 to 1986 as a research assistant at the German Poland Institute in Darmstadt . Afterwards she was a lecturer for German as a Foreign Language at the University of Frankfurt am Main. After working for the KKL ( JNF ) Germany from 1992 to 1994 as a personal advisor to the chairman of the board and later President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany , Ignatz Bubis , she worked as a research assistant at the Moses Mendelssohn Center in Potsdam from 1994 to 1995 . In 2002 she did her doctorate in general and comparative literature at the Free University of Berlin with Gert Mattenklott . From 1995 to 2006 she was a research assistant and lecturer for Yiddish at the University of Potsdam and then until her retirement she was a lecturer for Yiddish at the Free University of Berlin.
Active membership in the Women's International Zionist Organization has existed since 1986 - as a board member of WIZO Frankfurt am Main and Berlin as well as a member of the executive committee of the German WIZO. In 2007 she was a founding and active member of the German section of the international scholars' organization Scholars for Peace in the Middle East (SPME). She was its 1st Deputy Chairwoman until 2011, from 2017 to 2019 she was Chairwoman and has been 1st Deputy Chairwoman since then. She has also been a member of the International Presidium since 2017 and its secretary since 2019.
Grözinger has been married to the Judaist Karl Erich Grözinger since 1968 and has a daughter, the dermatologist Yael Adler .
She is the author and editor of books, essays, articles and reviews on Jewish literature in the German, English, French, Polish, Hebrew and Yiddish languages as well as on Jewish history, culture and cultural history (theater, folk music) and gives lectures on these topics at At home and abroad.
