Karl Erich Grözinger

Karl Erich Grözinger (born February 4, 1942 in Stuttgart ) is a German Judaist and religious scholar .

Life

After studying Protestant theology at the Universities of Tübingen , Berlin and Heidelberg - during which he completed a one-year course in Biblical Studies , Biblical Archeology and Judaic Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem - he was a research assistant at the Heidelberg Qumran Research Center with Karl Georg Kuhn . He continued the second degree in Semitic and Jewish Studies, which he began in Heidelberg, in Frankfurt am Main . Here he worked as an assistant at Arnold Maria Goldberg's seminar for Jewish studies. There he received his doctorate in 1975 in Jewish studies, Semitistik- Aramaistik and Old Testament of Dr. phil with the work on rabbinical literature "Midrash Pesikta Rabbati" (with summa cum laude). In 1980 he received his habilitation there in the subject of Judaic Studies with the work "Music and Song in the Theology of Early Jewish Literature, Talmud , Midrash , Mysticism" , which had become a standard work , and was appointed as a private lecturer. He was a founding member of the Union of Judaists. In 1996 he founded the Association for Jewish Studies at the University of Potsdam . V. , of which he was 1st chairman until 2001. At the University of Frankfurt am Main. , where he worked until 1994, he was appointed honorary professor for Jewish studies in 1985, followed by research stays in Israel . In 1989 he was appointed full professor at the newly established first chair for Jewish studies at Lund University , Sweden , where he taught until 1991. In addition to being offered a professorship at the University of Potsdam, in the same year he was offered a professorship for Jewish Studies at the University of Halle . In addition to several guest professorships, which he a. a. led to the USA and Poland , he is particularly connected to Israel in terms of research, as a Fellow of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Jerusalem and Affiliated Professor of the University of Haifa . He is also an international expert.

Since 1994 Grözinger has held a chair at the Institute for Religious Studies with a focus on Jewish religious history at the University of Potsdam. There he was a co-founder of the Jewish Studies course , director of the resulting College and Institute for Jewish Studies / School of Jewish Studies, and founder of the LER course, which is binding for Brandenburg (Life Design , Ethics, Religious Studies) . In 2007 he retired. Since 2007 he has been chairman of the Ephraim Veitel Foundation . From 2012 to 2013 he was senior professor at the Center for Jewish Studies in Berlin-Brandenburg .

Grözinger is the author of numerous books and articles. He has been married to Elvira Grözinger since 1968 and has a daughter, the dermatologist Yael Adler .

Grözinger has published on all important stages of development in Jewish religious history and in 2019 will publish the fifth and last volume of his intellectual history of Judaism: Jüdisches Denken. Theology, philosophy, mysticism.
