Ely Tacchella (born May 25, 1936 in Neuchâtel ; † August 2, 2017 ) was a Swiss football player .

Career

society

The German-speaking Ticino Neuchâtel with roots began his footballing career at Cantonal Neuchâtel and moved in 1960 in the capital of the canton of Vaud, to Lausanne to Lausanne-Sports . With the blue-whites he won the Swiss Cup in the 1961/62 season , repeated it in 1963/64 and, as a coronation, won the championship title in the 1964/65 season before Young Boys Bern . In 1962, 1963, 1969 and 1970 he had to be satisfied with the runner-up with his club. The reliable defender also lost the cup final in a second edition in 1967 against FC Basel . With the "Kings of the Night" (the team was so called because it was almost unbeatable in floodlit games on the Pontaise ) he also took part in the European Cup of Champions against Sparta Prague in 1965/66 and in the competition in 1963, 1965 and 1968 Cup winners part. In 1965, Tacchella and his team only failed at the eventual cup winner West Ham United . In the 1970/71 season he ended his career with Neuchâtel Xamax.

National team

Tacchella played a total of 42 times for Switzerland . He made his debut in the "Nati" in the World Cup qualifier on May 20, 1961 against Belgium in a 2-1 win in Lausanne. Therefore, he was also in the playoff against the Swedes in Berlin on November 12, 1961 in action. The game was won 2-1 goals and Switzerland went to Chile for the 1962 World Cup . There Tacchella defended in all three group games against Chile, Germany and Italy. He was also there to defend himself during the successful qualifying matches for the 1966 World Cup in England . At the World Cup itself, he was only used in the starting game against Germany, which lost 5-0 goals, in Sheffield on July 12th . After the 1: 4 defeat on October 15, 1969 in the World Cup qualifier against Greece in Thessaloniki , he ended his international career after 42 appearances; Ely Tacchella had worn the captain's armband for the national team from 1967.

Personal

Tacchella was district commander and head of the military pre-instruction in the Canton of Neuchâtel, which was abolished in 1972 . He held the rank of captain in the Swiss Army.
