Emilio de Carvalho

Emílio de Carvalho (born August 3, 1933 in Quiongua , Angola ) is a Methodist theologian and bishop .

Live and act

Emílio JM de Carvalho studied theology at the Faculty of the Methodist Church of São Paulo ( Brazil ), while at the same time serving as a parish assistant in two churches in the city. In December 1958 he received his degree as a BD After degree completion as a MA at the Northwest University in June 1960 he was Bishop Harry Clifford Northcott for deacon ordained , as on June 3 this year, the Wisconsin Annual Conference was held. Carvalho then went back to Angola, where he was called to the central church of Luanda .

In 1965 he was appointed professor and headed the "Emmanuel Theological Seminary" in Dondi, Angola. On January 2, 1966, during the Angolan Annual Conference, he was ordained as an advisor to Bishop HP Andreassen . When the African Central Conference held its meeting in Limbe ( Malawi ) in August 1972 , he was elected bishop for all of Angola. It was consecrated on October 21 of this year by Bishop Escrivão Anglaze Zunguze in Luanda .

De Carvalho was a member of the Christian Peace Conference (CFK). He worked in the 5th All-Christian Peace Assembly in Prague in 1978 and was elected to its working and continuation committee.

In a letter to the Cuban ambassador in Angola in July 2004, he campaigned for the spies " The Cuban five " imprisoned in the USA to be released. He said u. a .: "I recently returned from the United States, where I attended a Methodist Church conference and learned of this situation." The bishop said the conference had passed a resolution calling for the release of the five Cuban prisoners . He stressed that the Angolan Methodist Church had close ties to that in Cuba and that this problem would be resolved as soon as possible.

In 2006 Carvalho resigned from his position as Bishop of the United Methodist Church of Angola .
