Emanuel Leser (born September 26, 1849 in Mainz , † May 20, 1914 in Heidelberg ) was a German economist and economic historian .

Live and act

He was born in Mainz as the son of the Jewish businessman Leo Leser, attended grammar school there and, from 1867, the universities of Heidelberg and Göttingen . Readers devoted himself primarily to historical studies, especially in Göttingen, as a student of Georg Waitz . In 1870 he received his doctorate in Göttingen on a historical subject, in 1874 he completed his habilitation in Heidelberg in the subject of economics, in 1881 he became an associate professor and from 1894 he held a chair.

Since 1875 Emanuel Leser was married to Ida Rohr († 1904), daughter of the manor owner Adam Rohr from Langguhle , Rawitsch District , Posen Province . He died in Heidelberg in 1914.

His private library is preserved in the Heidelberg University Library .
