Emanuele Narducci (born May 31, 1950 in Florence ; † June 17, 2007 ibid) was an Italian classical philologist ( Latinist ).

Life

Narducci studied as a student of Antonio La Penna at the University of Florence and the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa . Sebastiano Timpanaro , who does not belong to the academic establishment, can also be regarded as one of his academic mentors. Narducci taught from 1986 on as professor ordinario for Latin literature at the Facoltà di Magistero of Trieste , from 1989 on at the Facoltà di Lettere of the University of Florence.

Narducci is one of the most important modern interpreters of Cicero , to whom he has dedicated several monographs. Among the Latin poets, Lucan found his special attention in the form of two monographs. In addition, he contributed to a Latin literary history edited by Mario Citroni and worked on the reception of antiquity in the modern age. Narducci also translated into Italian a large number of philosophical writings and speeches by Cicero.

In addition, in 2000 he founded and coordinated the Symposium Ciceronianum Arpinas , the scientific program accompanying the Certamen Ciceronianum Arpinas, and in 2004 the Centro di Studi sulla Fortuna dell'Antico in Sestri Levante .
