description

Emblingia calceoliflora is a low-growing, slightly woody, herbaceous perennial plant that is often a little succulent . The more or less opposite, stalked leaves are simple with a smooth leaf edge. The stipules are tiny.

The single flowers are hermaphroditic and strongly zygomorphic . There are five fused sepals of different sizes. The only two petals are shaped differently. The flower color can be white, cream, yellow, green or pink. There are eight or nine stamens , only four of which are fertile , the others are staminodes . There is only one upper carpel , which is two-winged. The stamens and carpel sit on a curved androgynophore .
