Emil Ernst Heinsdorff
Emil Ernst Heinsdorff (born March 16, 1887 in Rathenow , † January 19, 1948 in Irschenhausen ) was a German painter , illustrator , goldsmith and etcher .
Heinsdorff was initially trained as an engraver in Düsseldorf . He then studied at the academy in Karlsruhe with Hans Thoma and privately in Munich with Edmund Steppes . He became a founding member and board member of the German Art Society and co-founder of the Munich artists' association “Der Bund”. He settled in Munich and also lived on his country estate in Irschenhausen.
In addition to oil painting, he dealt with lithographs, woodcuts and etchings. His favorite subjects were depictions of children and flowers. He also illustrated books, including the 'de-Jewified' hymn book Great God we praise you , published in 1941 . Many of his works appeared in the form of postcards. He also designed playing cards and worked as a goldsmith.
