Emil Grünig (born July 26, 1915 in Krattigen ; † October 25, 1994 in Kriens ) was a Swiss sports shooter .

successes

Emil Grünig took part in two disciplines at the 1948 Olympic Games in London . With the small-bore rifle in the prone position over 50 m, he did not get past 34th place. In the three-position fight over 300 m with the free rifle, he was far more successful, because with 1120 points he achieved the best value of the competition. Grünig received the gold medal ahead of Pauli Janhonen and Willy Røgeberg and became Olympic champion .

Emil Grünig won a total of 27 medals at world championships : he was world champion nine times, silver eight times and bronze ten times. He won his first title in Helsinki in 1937 with the army rifle in team competitions in three-position combat and kneeling. Ten years later he secured the team titles in Stockholm with the free rifle in three-position combat, with the small-bore rifle in the kneeling position and with the army rifle in the so-called American competition. Grünig won the other four world championship titles in Oslo in 1952 , again all with the team. He remained victorious both in the prone position with the small bore rifle and in the three-position competition with the free rifle, the standard rifle and the army rifle. Grünig received four of his 27 medals in individual disciplines, his best result being two silver medals in 1937 in the standing position with the free rifle and the kneeling position with the army rifle.
