Emil Heinricher

Emil Johann Lambert Heinricher (born November 14, 1856 in Laibach , † July 13, 1934 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian botanist . He was mainly concerned with parasitic seed plants, especially the flaky root and mistletoe . In addition, he also published general articles on the development history, anatomy, morphology and physiology of parasitic angiosperms and on teratology . Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Heinr. "

Life

Emil Heinricher was born the son of a Ljubljana councilor. He studied in Graz , where he received his doctorate in 1879. From 1835 until his death in 1888 he was Hubert Leitgeb's assistant . From 1882 he worked as a private lecturer in botany.

From 1882 to 1883 he worked with Simon Schwendener in Berlin and with Julius Sachs in Würzburg . In 1888 he founded a botanical institute in Graz, but in 1889 he succeeded Johann Joseph Peyritsch as professor of botany at the University of Innsbruck . At the same time he also became director of the Innsbruck Botanical Garden , where he introduced planting according to biological groups in the garden that was newly established in Hötting between 1900 and 1913. In 1889 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

In 1903/1904 he made a trip to the tropics and worked there at the Buitenzorg Botanical Garden (the former Dutch name of the Indonesian city of Bogor ). From 1928 he was a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences .

His grandson is the mycologist Meinhard Moser .
