Emil Luginbühl

Emil Luginbühl (born July 26, 1899 in St. Gallen ; † October 13, 1983 ) was a Swiss German studies specialist and high school teacher .

Live and act

Emil Luginbühl grew up in St. Gallen. After studying German and history at the Universities of Zurich and Basel , he received his doctorate in 1933 under Albert Bachmann in Zurich with his studies on Notker's art of translation. From 1929 to 1972 he taught at the St. Gallen Cantonal School ; He also taught German as a foreign language at the University of St. Gallen . During the Second World War he worked for Hans Hausamann's military intelligence service .

Luginbühl took on a number of honorary positions in the historical and cultural field. From 1940 to 1947 he was President of the Historical Association of the Canton of St. Gallen. In 1941 he was elected to the board of the Association for the History of Lake Constance and its Surroundings . He made a significant contribution to the survival of the association during the war and to the new beginning after the war, for which he was made an honorary member in 1968.

Emil Luginbühl was married to Alice, née Brütsch, and had two daughters.
