Emil Neuburger (born May 24, 1870 in Buchau am Federsee ; died June 14, 1938 in Pasing ) was a German politician .

Besides Hans Nimmerfall, he was the main representative of the SPD in Pasing. His political commitment to low-income people exemplifies the early years of the SPD Bavaria . From 1909 to 1914 he was an SPD mandate holder in the community college , from 1914 to 1919 magistrate of the then city of Pasing (today's district of Munich), in 1919 an elected representative in the workers' council of the Munich Council Republic . His company was Aryanized and his wife was persecuted by the Nazi regime .

Life

Neuburger was born as the son of the Buchau horse dealer Michael Neuburger and his wife Sara, b. Because, born. After living in Ravensburg , he came to Munich in 1886 at the age of 16. After a year in Schwäbisch Hall , he lived in Pasing from 1901. Neuburger married Ricka Guggenheim from Tiengen in 1873. Ricka Neuburger died six weeks after the birth of her daughter Karoline. After marrying Emilie Bernheimer, daughter of the Stuttgart businessman Leopold Bernheimer, their son Michael was born in 1908 and emigrated to New York at the age of 19. After a long and serious illness, Neuburger died in Pasing on June 14, 1938, shortly before his wife planned to emigrate to New York to live with their two children. Emilie and Sophie Neuburger managed to emigrate to the USA.

Politician

From 1909 to 1914 Neuburg was an SPD elector in the community college, from 1914 to 1919 magistrate and in 1919 elected representative in the workers' council of the Munich Soviet republic .

Entrepreneur

Neuburger ran two department stores in Pasing and two in Munich (Türkenstrasse 71 and Thalkirchner Strasse 47). In 1901 he opened the “Pasinger Kaufhaus” in the office building opposite the train station. 1906 followed a branch in the Planegger Str. 7. Brother Isidor Neuburger (1873–1924) took over as a partner from 1911 with his wife Sophie, née. Tannhäuser from Buchau, the Munich branches. In 1931 Neuburger gave up his shop in Pasing and opened a sales point in his private apartment on the first floor in the same building. The department store on Türkenstrasse fell into other hands as a result of the " Aryanization " in 1938.

Commitment to the common good

In 1914, Neuburger was a deputy member of the supervisory board of the “Baugenossenschaft Pasing für Kleinwohnungsbau” with the aim of alleviating the prevailing housing shortage. Strongly opposed by the house owners and the conservatives, construction of the first building began in 1914. He took over the organization of the “Municipal Shoe Aid” project.

Honor

The exhibition “Moved into the Light. Jewish Paths of Life in the West of Munich ”in the Pasinger factory in 2008 reminded of the politician forgotten by the people of Pasing. To date, no photo has been found. It is thanks to the efforts of the members of the history workshop of Jewish life in Pasing that a street is named after him today, Emil-Neuburger-Straße.
