Emil Walter (politician)

Emil Walter (* 29. January 1872 in Winterthur ; † 19th January 1939 in Zurich , reformed , from 1879 of Winterthur) was a Swiss politician ( SP ).

biography

Walter was the son of the high school teacher and forty-eight from Munich Albert Walter. After he spent his youth in an orphanage in Winterthur, he attended the Küsnacht teacher training college from 1887 to 1891 . After serving as a vicariate , he trained as a secondary teacher in Zurich from 1893 to 1896. From 1895 to 1903 he worked as a secondary teacher in Winterthur. In 1903 he was co-founder and until 1909 editor of the Winterthurer Arbeiterzeitung .

From 1898 to 1903 Walter Grosser was a city councilor in Winterthur. From 1902 to 1920 he was a Cantonal Councilor in Zurich . From 1903 to 1910 he was a part-time city councilor (head of the police force).

From 1908 to 1911 Walter was editor of the Grütlianer . From 1911 to 1920 he was a secondary teacher in Zurich. From 1912 to 1915 he was a member of the management of the SP Switzerland as Vice President of the Swiss Grütliverein ; from 1916 to 1917 he was central president of the association. From 1920 to 1929 Zurich government councilor (as head of finance, and from 1923 as head of construction). He was a member of the board of directors of the electricity works of the canton of Zurich and the Northeast Swiss Power Plants (NOK).

Walter “played an important role in the Winterthur workers 'movement until he was voted out of office as a city councilor in 1910 in response to his stance in the bricklayers' strike from 1909 to 1910. He was one of the leading Grütlians and was elected to the government council with civil support. Walter was involved in various publications for the introduction of proportional representation . "

Walter was married to Marie Hüni and was the father of the science philosopher Emil Jakob Walter .
