Emilio Walter Álvarez (born February 10, 1939 in Montevideo , † April 22, 2010 ibid) was a Uruguayan football player .

Career

The Cococho or Cochocho called Álvarez played during his entire career almost exclusively for Nacional , for which he was active from 1954 and earned championship honors in all teams in his youth. He made his debut in the Primera División in 1959 under coach Ondino Viera and wore the Nacionals jersey until 1970. With 511 games for Nacional during this period, he is the record holder in this regard. Álvarez, who was at home on the left wing in his early days, was unable to achieve a goal in the Primera División . He formed from 1960 together with Troche and Taibo or Sosa the defensive of the Elf from the Río de la Plata . With the Bolsos he won the Uruguayan championship in 1963, 1966, 1969 and 1970. He was also with his team in 1964 and 1967 in the final of the Copa Campeones de América and the Copa Libertadores . For the most part, he was there in the course of his career as a team captain. Álvarez was also given the name Mister Wembley because he ran up in 1963 on the occasion of a game in London's Wembley Stadium for the centenary of the English league as a Uruguayan representative for the team "Rest of the World".
