Emilio Iovio (born March 9, 1962 in Hamilton , Ontario ) is a former Italo - Canadian ice hockey player who played for the Wedemark Scorpions in the German Ice Hockey League from 1979 to 1999 .
Career
Emilio Iovio began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian junior league Ontario Hockey Association and its successor Ontario Hockey League . In these he played from 1979 to 1982 for the Toronto Marlboros , Niagara Falls Flyers and Sudbury Wolves . The attacker then spent several years in amateur hockey, including playing for Flamboro Real McCoy's in the OHA Sr. in the 1983/84 season. In the summer of 1986, the native Canadian went to Europe with an Italian passport, where he signed a contract with AS Varese Hockey from the Italian Serie A , with which he immediately won the national championship .
In the years 1988 to 1993 Iovio played for the HC Como in the second-rate Serie A2, as well as the HC Bozen , the HC Devils Milano and his ex-club AS Varese Hockey in the Serie A. Then he got another contract with the HC Devils Milano, with which he won the Italian championship for the second time in his career in 1994. After three seasons, the left shooter left the Lombards in 1996 and signed with the Wedemark Scorpions from the German Ice Hockey League , which he left again after the 1996/97 season . In this he had scored eleven goals in 46 games and provided 22 assists.
Iovio finally ended his career in Italy, where he played for his former clubs AS Varese Hockey and HC Bozen, as well as HC Pustertal, until he ended his career in 1999 at the age of 37 .
International
For Italy Iovio took part in the B-World Championship in 1991 , as well as the A-World Championship in 1982 , 1992 , 1993 and 1994 . He was also in Italy's squad at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville and 1994 in Lillehammer .
