Emily Langberg

Emily Langberg (born April 8, 1851 in Christiania ; † August 22, 1935 there ) was a Norwegian painter.

Life

Emily Langberg was the daughter of the Norwegian physicist and university professor Lorentz Christian Langberg (1810-1857) and his wife Andrea Margrethe (née Heyerdahl, 1826-1862). In 1889 she became a student of Carl Oesterley junior in Hamburg , in 1891 a student of Erik Werenskiold , Eilif Peterssen and Harriet Backer in Christiania, and in 1893/95 Delécluze in Paris. She painted landscapes as well as interiors and still lifes in oils and watercolors . She was represented at exhibitions from 1892.

Together with her Hamburg painter friend Marie Woermann , she went on extensive study trips. The friends traveled to Norway, Algiers, Spain, Egypt, Syria and Greece, among others.

She was the older sister of Louise Holm (nee Langberg, 1853-1926), married to the Norwegian pastor and author Oluf Andreas Holm (1843-1933), and the Norwegian painter Juliane Fredrikke Langberg (1856-1930).
