Eilif Peterssen
Hjalmar Eilif Emmanuel Peterssen (born September 4, 1852 in Kristiania , † December 29, 1928 in Lysaker ) was a Norwegian painter .
He attended the painting school of Johan Fredrik Eckersberg in Kristiania (Oslo) from 1869 to 1870. He then briefly studied painting with Knud Bergslien (1827–1908). He then studied in Karlsruhe (1871–1873) under Wilhelm Riefstahl and together with Hans Heyerdahl in Munich (1873–1875) under Wilhelm Diez . He also visited London , Paris , Skagen and Italy several times . He was a profound expert on European art and later trained painters such as August Eiebakke , Kitty Kielland and Harald Oskar Sohlberg .
