Kitty Kielland
Kitty Kielland (also: Christine Lange Kielland, Kitty Lange Kielland) (born October 8, 1843 in Stavanger , † October 1, 1914 in Christiania ) was a Norwegian painter .
life and work
Kitty Kielland was the daughter of the rentier and consul Jens Zetlitz Kielland and the sister of the poet Alexander Lange Kielland .
Kielland began painting in her youth as a dilettante. From 1873 she studied in Karlsruhe with Hans Fredrik Gude . In 1875 she went to Munich , where she mostly worked as a freelance painter. Kielland was one of the most important members of the Norwegian artists' colony in Munich. During the summers of 1874, 1876 and 1878 she painted landscapes in Jæren .
From 1879 to 1889 she lived in Paris . Kielland spent the summers partly in Cernay-la-Ville and partly in Jæren. In Paris she studied with Léon Germain Pelouse . From 1889 she lived in Kristiania . In 1893 she stayed temporarily in Paris. In 1896 she traveled to Italy and France . She spent most of the summers in Jæren; later also in eastern Norway and in the high mountains of Norway.
Together with Harriet Backer, Kitty Kielland is one of the most important exponents of Norwegian naturalism .

- From 1879 to 1890 she exhibited at the Paris Salon .
- The picture peat bog ( après la pluie ) received a medal at the Paris World Exhibition in 1889.
- In the years 1884 to 1908 she attended the annual state exhibitions in Oslo.
- In 1914 she took part in the anniversary exhibition in Oslo.
- In 1896 she sent the international art exhibition in Berlin.
- In 1899 and 1907 she sent to the international exhibition in Venice.
- In 1911 she took part in the World Exhibition in Rome.
- In the years 1883, 1890, 1891 and 1901 she sent the glass palace exhibition in Munich.
- In 1904 she sent the art exhibition in Düsseldorf .
- In 1911 she took part in a collective exhibition in Oslo.
- In 1925 she was posthumously represented at the anniversary exhibition of the Kunstverein in Stavanger.
- Pictures by Kitty Kielland are in the National Gallery in Oslo, in the galleries in Bergen and Trondheim.
Varia
Kitty Kielland took part in the debates on art and social issues in Norway. Her magazine articles on art and the women's issue attracted general attention.
