Emily Jane Zurrer (born July 12, 1987 in Vancouver , British Columbia ) is a former Canadian soccer player .

Career

Zurrer played football, rugby , basketball , volleyball and pentathlon at Cowichan Secondary High School . She received several awards in both high school and the University of Illinois and was appointed to all-start teams. After graduating, she first played for the Vancouver Whitecaps Women and then for the Chicago Red Eleven .

In 2010 she made a detour to the German women's Bundesliga and played for SG Essen-Schönebeck . In May 2010 it was announced that her contract would not be renewed as she was absent from almost half of the games due to courses. She then returned to her hometown club.

In 2004 she won the 2004 CONCACAF U-19 Championship with the U-19s , in which she was named Most Valuable Player, and at the U-19 World Cup in 2004 , she reached the quarter-finals with Canada. At the 2006 CONCACAF U-20 Championship for women , she was second with Canada and took part in the U-20 World Cup in Russia in 2006 , where the Canadians were eliminated in the preliminary round.

Zurrer made her first international match against the USA on July 3, 2004, shortly before her 17th birthday . After another game at the end of July, she did not come to other appearances for the senior national team until 2008 and was then appointed to the squad for Beijing . At the Olympic Games it was used in all four games and reached the quarter-finals with Canada, in which they were subject to the USA in extra time. In 2009 she took part in the Cyprus Cup with Canada , losing to England in the final. In 2010 she won the Gold Cup with the national team, which means that Canada qualified directly for the 2011 World Cup, where they meet host Germany in the opening game . On March 2, 2011 she scored her first two international goals at the Cyprus Cup: first in the first game against Scotland and then in the final against the Netherlands . Both goals were decisive. Zurrer was a member of the Canadian squad for the World Cup and came to her first World Cup game in the opening game against Germany. She was also used in the other two group games, but was eliminated with Canada after three defeats in the preliminary round.

It was also nominated for the 2012 Olympic Games , but was not used.

In the 2013 season she played in the newly founded National Women's Soccer League , the highest American professional league in women's football, for Seattle Reign FC . For the 2014 season she moved to the Swedish first division club Jitex BK , with whom she was relegated to the Elitettan at the end of the season .

The following year she was appointed to the squad for the World Cup in her own country , where she was not used. In February 2017, Zurrer ended her active playing career.
