Emma is a rock band from Bleicherode , Thuringia .

history

The band was founded in 1989 by Ralf Kirchner, Matthias "Emma" Hirschfeld, Matthias Müller and Heiko Meißner. After the first self-produced CD Time is so cruel (still under the old band name YOGA) there were successes. The title song made it to number 1 in the Thuringian radio charts. This was followed by an engagement at the Nordhausen Theater to participate in the musical Stars .

The album Emma male was released by Ariola in spring 1998 . The single releases You cried while walking and you turn every man into a pig , also made it to 1st place in the Thuringian radio charts. TV appearances in RTL2 Peep! , MDR Riverboat , Hessen TV and NDR Talk Show . Following the Male Tour, Emma presented her first self-composed and completely sold-out musical Around the World in 80 Days in the Nordhausen Theater .

The musicians have been working with the German theater director Manfred Wekwerth on the Emma rocks Brecht project since autumn 2006 . The stage program includes newly arranged songs and poems by the young Bertolt Brecht. Well-known pieces from it are u. a. The Choral vom Manne Baal (1918) or The Ballad of the Pirates (1923) . Emma is supported by the actors and singers Renate Richter and Hendrik Duryn .

In addition to numerous live concerts and rock parties all over Germany, the band has been performing at the Staatsschauspiel Hannover since January 2012 in the revue Kollateralschlager (by Jürgen Kuttner ).

In April 2012 the band project Diadem (with Michael Letz and Diether Dehm ) was officially mentioned for the first time. The recordings for the album DIADEM - Grosse Liebe.reloaded took place in the summer of 2011. Most of the songs on the CD were written by Diether Dehm and are sung by himself or by Matthias "Emma" Hirschfeld. Particularly noteworthy is the title Waterfall . It ties in with the anthem of the Dutch rock band Bots. The soft water breaks the stone . The English text is from Pete Seeger .

Since December 2014 EMMA can be seen in the revue Ach, Volk, du obermieses on the Volksbühne in Berlin. The revue was created on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Volksbühne under the direction of Jürgen Kuttner .
