Emma Byrne (born June 14, 1979 ) is a former Irish football player . The goalkeeper played for English club Arsenal Ladies FC and the Irish national team , whose record she has been since 2014.

Career

Emma Byrne moved from Irish club St Patrick's Athletic to London 's Arsenal Ladies FC in 1998 and has been a regular goalkeeper ever since. In her first season at Arsenal, she won the Cup and the League Cup . She won her first championship with Arsenal in 2001. To date, she has won the championship five times and the cup and the league cup four times. On September 26, 2013, she made her 100 international match for the Irish national team against Croatia . On April 5, 2014, she beat Ciara Grant's record in her 106th game in the World Cup qualifier against Germany and is now the only Irish national record player. In 2003 and 2005 she was voted Player of the Year by Arsenal fans. In addition to training sessions with the women's team, she trains regularly with Arsenal's male junior team.

On April 7, 2016, she made her 125th international match.
