Emperor: Battle for Dune (Original title: Emperor: Battle for Dune ) is a real-time strategy game for the PC , which is loosely based on the science fiction novel Dune - Der Wüstenplanet by Frank Herbert and the optical style of the movie Der Wüstenplanet by David Lynch has. It was developed in 2001 by Westwood Studios and distributed by Electronic Arts . Emperor: Battle for Dune is the sequel to Dune 2000 . The background music for the game comes from Frank Klepacki , David Arkenstone and Jarrid Mendelson.

action

The game begins after the actions from Dune 2000. Padishah Emperor Frederick IV was murdered by his concubine , the Bene Gesserit Lady Elara. The empire is falling into chaos. To end this, the spaceman guild calls a war of the assassins on Dune. The three high houses of Atreides , Harkonnen and Ordos compete against each other. The ultimate prize for the winning house is the leadership seat in Landsraad and the throne of the Padishah emperor of the known universe.

Gameplay

The game is a classic real-time strategy game in which the aim is to build a military base, mine Spice as raw material to get money and set up an army in barracks and weapons factories to destroy the enemy.

The following aristocratic houses are available as parliamentary groups:

  • House Atreides - the noble House Atreides relies on more conventional weapon systems and soldiers.
  • House Harkonnen - the malicious House Harkonnen relies on heavy military equipment.
  • House Ordos - the devious dealer house relies on espionage, mercenaries and forbidden technology.
  • Fremen - the desert warriors of the desert planet
  • Sardaukar - the former imperial elite soldiers of the emperor are looking for new allies after their emperor has been killed and are a real asset to those who ally with them.
  • Ixians - House IX is the technology leader in the Dune Universe.
  • Space Guild - The space travel guild , which is normally responsible for interstellar space travel, is now actively involved in combat with its navigators, mutated by the Spice.
  • Bene Tleilax - the Tleilaxu are leaders in genetic engineering and the manufacture of biological implants and are now breeding biological weapons in the form of monsters and mutations for conflict.

In the game plot you also meet the smugglers' guild more often and the order of the Bene Gesserit appears in the cutscenes.

reception

Reviews in PC game magazines:

The game could not meet sales expectations, which is why Westwood boss Louis Castle in March 2002 classified a sequel as unlikely.
