Engcobo [ ɛˈŋǀʱɔːbɔː ] ( English Engcobo Local Municipality ) is a local community in the Chris Hani district of the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa . The seat of the municipal administration is in Ngcobo . Mayor is Siyabulela Zangqa.

The community name is the isiXhosa name for a sweet grass that grows there.

In 2011 the community had 155,513 inhabitants. 99.6% of them were black. The first language was 94% IsiXhosa , 2% English and 0.8% Afrikaans .
