Life

He came from the Westphalian noble family Wrede . The father was Ferdinand Karl von Wrede zu Melschede . The mother was Klara Lucia (born von der Asseburg zu Hinnenburg).

By papal collation he came to a cathedral canon in Hildesheim in 1761 . In 1775, Maximilian Friedrich von Königsegg-Rothenfels added a position in Münster. There he was also cathedral sexton in 1782 . In Hildesheim, von Wrede became a cathedral scholaster in 1790 . He was also a secret councilor in the monastery of Münster .

In 1800 he was elected provost of the cathedral in Münster. A short time later he also became president of the secret council. During his time, the bishopric of Münster fell in favor of the Prussian hereditary principality of Münster from 1802 and the French occupation from 1806. In view of the political changes, he exchanged letters with the then cathedral dean Ferdinand August von Spiegel about the future position of the cathedral chapters. Because of disputes about the occupation of the parish Altenberge , he led a trial against Duke Joseph Arnold von Looz-Corswarem before the Reich Chamber of Commerce .
