Engelbert Dietrich Ludwig Freiherr Droste zu Erwitte (* July 23, 1725 ; † July 9, 1769 ) was provost in Hildesheim and Landdrost of the Duchy of Westphalia .

Life

He came from the Droste zu Erwitte family and was the son of Caspar Ferdinand von Droste zu Erwitte . This was among other things Landdrost in the Duchy of Westphalia. The mother was Juliana Elisabeth (born von Ketteler ).

He entered the clergy. From 1730 he belonged to the cathedral chapter in Hildesheim. He was also canon in Paderborn between 1741 and 1761 . He was also the secret council of the Electorate of Cologne . He was sent to various embassies. In 1746 he was the second electoral ambassador for the Electorate of Cologne in the election of Franz I.

From 1731 to 1758 he was Landdrost of the Duchy of Westphalia. He was the deputy of the Elector of Cologne in this territory.

He was provost of the cathedral in Hildesheim from 1756. In this context, he gave up the post of Landdrosten. As a representative of the mostly absent Prince-Bishop, he was governor and president of the Justice College in the Hildesheim Monastery from 1757 .
