The 1998/99 season was the first edition of the English Premier Ice Hockey League . This was created by splitting the English League in a higher class Premier Division and Division I . The Premier Division took on the status of the third division level after the Ice Hockey Superleague and British National League .

Mode and participants

There were two rounds, each with a return game. Two points were awarded for a win - even after overtime or penalty shootout - and one point for a draw. The field of participants consisted exclusively of English teams.
