Enric Mas Nicolau (born January 7, 1995 in Artà ) is a Spanish cyclist .
Career
In his youth, Enric Mas first played basketball . After he started cycling, he was supported by his cousin Antonio Colom , who himself was a professional cyclist until 2009. He later started for Alberto Contador's youth team .
From there, Mas switched to the Czech Continental team Klein Constantia in 2016 , the farm team of the Quick-Step racing team based in the World Tour . There he won his first stage races with the Volta ao Alentejo and the Tour de Savoie Mont-Blanc . At the Volta ao Alentejo he also managed a victory on the second stage.
For the 2017 season, Mas then received a contract with Quick-Step. At the Burgos Tour 2017 he finished the two high mountain stages in the top three, finished second overall and won the junior ranking of the tour. He then contested his first Grand Tour with the Vuelta a España 2017 , which he finished in 71st place overall.
In 2018, Enric Mas achieved his first World Tour-level victory on the final stage of the Tour of the Basque Country . He also won the junior ranking of the tour as sixth overall. At the Tour de Suisse 2018 , he won again in the junior category and finished the tour in fourth place overall. At the Vuelta a España 2018 , his second tour of the country, he surprisingly managed to make it onto the podium in the third week of racing, winning the mountain finish of the 20th stage and finishing second 1:46 minutes behind winner Simon Yates on the Tour of Spain.
For the 2020 season, Enric Mas received a three-year contract with Movistar and should achieve top placements for the team in the major tours.
