At the end of the 19th century, the association organized its first dog shows in Turin and Milan and started publishing a magazine. In 1904 over 1000 dogs were registered in the LOI for the first time. In 1926, the ENCI was recognized as a legal person in fascist Italy . In 1940 he was recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture .

The ENCI has recognized the FCI's papers since 1970 . In 2009 around 160,000 dogs were registered in the LOI. It organizes around 2000 events annually, including 1200 working tests and around 400 dog shows, in which a total of around 100,000 dogs take part.
