The eparchy Adiabene is in Iraq located eparchy of the Syrian Catholic Church , located in the Cathedral of the Queen of Peace in Ankawa in Erbil .
history
The Synod of the Bishops of the Syrian Catholic Church decided on June 22, 2019 to establish the Adiabene eparchy from ceded territory to the Syrian Catholic Archeparchy Mosul . On June 28, 2019, the Syrian Catholic Patriarch of Antioch , Ignatius Joseph III. Younan , the establishment decree from and on August 30th of the same year it was confirmed by Pope Francis . The first bishop was Nizar Semaan .
The area of the Adiabene eparchy includes the governorates of Dahuk , Erbil and as-Sulaimaniyya , which are part of the Kurdistan Autonomous Region . The name of the eparchy is derived from the Adiabene region .
