The Epsom Hospital is a hospital in Epsom , a suburb of London , which both the Imperial College London and the St George's the University of London as a teaching hospital serves.
history
The first hospital in Epsom was established in 1871 in the converted buildings of the Pembroke Cottages and opened in 1873 with eight beds as Epsom and Ewell Cottage Hospital . Four years later, in 1877, they moved to Hawthorne Place . On the occasion of the golden jubilee of Victoria , Queen of the United Kingdom , a new hospital was built on Alexandra Road , which was officially inaugurated by Princess Maria von Teck in 1889 .
The first buildings on what is now the clinic grounds on Dorking Road were built in 1890 and operated as a not-for-profit organization for over fifty years before the National Health Service's local trust was established in 1949 . At that time the hospital had forty beds. The previously existing Cottage Hospital moved in 1988 and was called West Park Hospital from then on . The old buildings on Alexandra Road have been converted into a surgical practice.
At times, negotiations were in progress about admitting the hospital to the neighboring Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust , which initially failed in October 2012, so that the Epsom Hospital will continue to be supported by the previous trust for the foreseeable future.
