The strawberry dwarf cichlid ( Apistogramma eremnopyge ) is a small species of cichlid that occurs in the catchment area of the Rio Pintuyacu, a tributary of the Rio Itaya near Iquitos in the Peruvian Amazon .
features
Apistogramma eremnopyge is moderately high back, the body height and the length of the head are a third of the standard length . Like all dwarf cichlids, the species has a distinct sexual dimorphism . Males have a light brown back, an iridescent longitudinal stripe, and the lower half of the sides of the body and the belly are whitish. The scales on the sides of the body have black, and in some rows of scales also red edges. The gill covers and cheeks are patterned alternately with iridescent and red spots and lines. The base of the dorsal fin is maroon, the dorsal fin is bluish, the elongated membranes of the dorsal fin are orange. The upper and lower rays of the caudal fin of the males are elongated. There is a black spot on the tail stalk of both males and females. The anal fin of the female is rounded, that of the male is pointed. The breast of the males is completely scaled, with the females only the front part.

Systematics
The species was scientifically described in 2014 by the Swedish ichthyologist Sven O. Kullander and a colleague . The epithetum eremnopyge refers to the dark tail root spot (ερεµνοζ (eremnos) = black + πυγη (pyge) = rear part).
