Erenbert Schrevogl

Erenbert Schrevogl (born May 11, 1634 in Schongau in Bavaria, † April 11, 1703 in Kremsmünster ) was Benedictine and abbot of Kremsmünster Abbey .

Life

After studying in Salzburg, Erenbert Schrevogl entered the monastery at the age of 16, made his profession in 1651 and was ordained a priest in 1658. He was a teacher of philosophy , held the office of novice master and looked after the parish of Sipbachzell . Through his offices in Passau, he gained the favor of Bishop Wenzeslaus Graf von Thun von Passau. On September 15, 1669 he was elected Abbot of Kremsmünster with a majority of the votes. Just one year after taking office, he was appointed to his council by Emperor Leopold I and received confirmation of the rights for higher hunting .

From 1673 to 1683 he held the post of MP with a short interruption, so that he was later appointed to the permanent council of the Chamber of Accounts for Upper Austria. He was given a special honor on December 14, 1676 at the wedding of Emperor Leopold to Eleonora Magdalena Therese in Passau, when he was allowed to participate in the celebrations.

After several strokes, Abbot Erenbert decided on February 25, 1703 to resign, which was confirmed by the Episcopal Ordinariate of Passau. In the same year he died on April 11, 1703 and was buried at the altar of Saint Candidae in the collegiate church.

900 year celebration

The historic event of the 900th anniversary of the monastery also fell during his term of office, which was duly celebrated with more than 700 guests. One of the highlights of his tenure was the visit of Emperor Leopold and his wife Eleonora on September 13, 1680, in whose honor a drama written by Father Simon Rettenpacher was performed.

Acquisitions and construction
