Erenfridus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Erenfridus († January 8th ) was a priest and abbot of the Marienfeld Monastery .

Life

Erenfridus was first prior in the Marienfeld monastery before he was appointed abbot in 1397. Prince-Bishop Otto IV von Hoya was consecrated in the choir of the St. Aegidii nunnery in Münster . The abbot was able to earn income of 42 Dutch guilders in Rinteln and Bielefeld . During the term of office of Erenfridus, monk Friedrich von Huda completed the today destroyed astronomical clock in the cathedral of the cathedral .

Increasingly greater differences developed between the abbot and the convent . These even led to the monastery income being separated from the abbot's income. When the seniors of the monastery and the Count of Tecklenburg opposed the abbot , Erenfridus put the Holy of Holies out in the sacristy and slept there. In the church itself he kept his horses. He later left the monastery on horseback and came to Herford . He fled further past Sassenberg Castle and was captured there on the orders of Drosten Johannes Buck. There the abbot was advised to resign from his office. He did this after a four-year term and gave up his wooden abbot's cross.

The abbot was released and stayed in Hardehausen Monastery for some time . He later returned to Marienfeld and lived there for a long time. He died on January 8th of an unknown year. The necrology of his monastery says about him: "Erenfridus presented himself as a friend of the righteous, even if he was narrow-minded and very hated."
