Erenfried II.

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Erenfried II. (Documented 942-966; † before 970) was a Rhenish Dynast from the family of Ezzonen . His parents cannot be determined with certainty.

He himself had the count's office on the Rhine in Zülpichgau (942), in Bonngau (945), in Hattuarien with its Untergauen, Düffelgau (947), Mühlgau (966) and probably the Gilde- / Keldagau , as well as in the Ruhrgau or in the Duisburg- Kaiserswerther County (950). In addition, he held the county of Huy on the middle Meuse and the bailiwick of the Stablo monastery (943–956). His brother, his nephews and his son also ruled in the Auelgau , which can therefore also be counted as part of the family's property. This accumulation of counties within the Duchy of Lower Lorraine made him a competitor of the sovereign, whose center of activity, however, should be seen more in other areas of the Duchy anyway.

Erenfried II was married to Richwara, whose origin is unknown and who died before 963. The couple had at least one son:

An identity of Erenfried II and Count Immo , attested in 959, is rejected by recent research.
